Mattress Review: The Countess is a mattress that offers firm orthopaedic support whilst maintaining a super soft sleep surface. The core of this mattress is a very substantial spring unit with reinforced edges. The mattress is turnable and so generous quilting is added to both sides of the mattress before it is covered in a super soft stretch fabric with breathable properties – you can see this fabric clearly in the picture above. The final stage in the construction of the mattress is a traditional technique known as tufting that involves pulling the two sides of the mattress together using chords. This leaves the undulations on the top and bottom surfaces of the mattress but importantly in the case of the Countess this also increases the firmness of the mattress significantly

Summary : The Countess is a firm orthopaedic mattress offering superior comfort and in this sense it is the same type of mattress as the Spinal Quilted mattress on our website. However, they go about achieving their stated aims in very different ways – the Countess is a more traditional mattress whereas the Spinal Quilted uses newer technologies. The outcome of this is that the Countess is cheaper, whereas the Spinal Quilted has the edge over it in terms of comfort. These are both excellent mattresses and so which one you prefer is entirely up to you.
